Lizzie Ryder-Soprano


Lizzie Ryder is a lyric soprano living in London. She studied at Birmingham Conservatoire where she received her first class Bmus (hons) degree. She also studied at Morley Opera school, working on roles such as ‘Blanche’ Les dialogues des Carmelites and Female Chorus Rape of Lucretia. She recently attended NOS short course Stagecraft in Opera and has worked with Sebastian Harcombe (RADA) in a Stanislavsky workshop. Lizzie has also participated in masterclasses with Briggitte Fassbaender (Wigmore Hall), Ann Murray (Leeds Lieder festival) and Graham Johnson as well as attending the BYO workshops.

Recent engagements include ‘Donna Anna’ Don Giovanni for Hurn Court Opera, covering ‘Nedda’ Pagliacci for West Green House Opera, ‘Röschen’ in Ethel Smyth’s Der Wald with the Opera Makers and ‘Micäela’ Carmen with St Paul’s Opera. Lizzie also worked with Nevill Holt Opera two years running where she sang in the role of ‘Frasquita’ Carmen as a cover and was acclaimed by Opera Now magazine for making ‘a hugely pleasing impression’. The following year she played the role of ‘Countess Ceprano’ Rigoletto. Other roles include ‘Anna Maurrant’ Street Scene, ‘Suor Angelica’ Suor Angelica and ‘Galatea’ Acis and Galatea (Birmingham Conservatoire). She has also played ‘Governess’ Turn of the screw, ‘Tytania’ A Midsummer night’s dream, ‘Mrs Julian’ Owen Wingrave and ‘Ellen Orford’ Peter Grimes (Britten Opera Scenes) and chorus in Northern Ireland Opera’s revival of The Elixir of Love for Nevill Holt Opera.

As well as Opera, Lizzie has worked as a soloist for various orchestras around the UK, including the Halle, singing Opera classics such as Rusalka’s ‘Song to the moon’ (2019) and ‘Easter Hymn’ Cavalleria Rusticana (2014). Lizzie is a frequent singer for the Charnwood Orchestra most recently engaged to sing standards from Die Fledermaus (2020). This year she will join them again for an Opera highlights concert and will be singing ‘Oh! Il signore vi manda’ Cavilliera Rusticana and ‘Prendi per me sei libero’ L’elisir d’amore.

Lizzie also has a great passion for French Chanson and German lied, singing works such as ‘Les Illuminations’ (Britten) (2019) as well as ‘Wesendonck Lieder’ (Wagner) (2018) with the Beauchamp Sinfonietta and ‘Sieben Fruhe Lieder’ (Berg) with the Charnwood Orchestra. She is engaged to sing Ravel’s ‘Sheherazade’
